Lightly Seared On The Reality Grill

Random expat geekery from The Low Countries

A few days ago, I had reason to leave my laptop unattended for a few minutes. When I returned, I discovered that Macsen had been putting random search terms into Google.

He’d also managed to lock the track pad, which worried me for a moment.

Today, I discovered that he’d also managed to take and save a screenshot of his activities…

Not bad for a four year old.

As I briefly mentioned yesterday, the snow has finally arrived. For me, this meant a three hour drive home on a Friday night, so I wasn’t best pleased. Some people, however, thought it was great.

After some climbing and a bit of low speed sledging (the drive is steep enough for Macsen to launch himself, but not long enough for him to really pick up speed), we started looking for more fun things to do in the snow. Luckily, I had a broom.

It’s been a long weekend over which we have enjoyed one of the smellier parts of parenting, and one of those parts that no-one reeally talks about. But we’ve made it and I am now heading to work where I can enjoy the comparative peace of only having to deal with three simultaneous disasters.

So here’s a video tribute to the greatest drug ever discovered. I have the feeling that I may be getting through quite a lot of this today.

Teamwork

One of the toys the twins received when we saw Sinterklaas last Sunday was a drum with a set of shaped holes around the edge. It comes with a set of shaped blocks and the idea is that the kids have to learn to identify which shape goes into which hole.

A nice side-product of this toy is that it’s something on which the twins can work together.

What is not so apparent from the above photo is that, working together, the twins have figured out how to open the drum so that they can fill it without having to faff around with this matching shapes business.

We’re into the middle of November, and that means it’s time to start thinking about next month’s seasonal festivities. This is why it was that we found ourselves spending Sunday travelling to The Netherlands for the first annual visit of Sinterklaas.

We have photos.

Of course we carved pumpkins for Halloween. And here they are…

Obviously, when Macsen sees me with a camera he has to have a go himself. So once the twins were asleep, Macsen and I went back outside so he could take some snaps of the state of our garden.

All compositions are entirely by Macsen.

It’s Autumn and the leaves are falling fast, which means it’s time for the kids to earn their keep.
